Abstract
This paper presents a review of the analytic hierarchy process (AHP). AHP is a multiple-criteria decision-making tool that has been used for almost all domains related to decision making and priority setting. It consists of five steps: define the decision elements, construct a decision model, compare alternatives and construct a pair-wise comparison matrix, consistency ratio (CR) analysis, synthesis, and decision making. A main strength of AHP is that it is methodologically sound and user-friendly. AHP appears to be a promising support tool for shared decision making, evaluation of health technology assessment, and policy.
